Name of the award: Ashoka Senior Fellowship Award
Award Recipient and relation to SGP: Mr. Bibhu Mohanty received the Ashoka Fellowship award in September 2009.Mr. Mohanty is heading the NGO Sambandh who is one of the SGP partner and is currently carrying out the promotion of organic farming and conservation of biodiversity in OrissaAshoka invests in people. We search the world for leading social entrepreneurs and at the launch stage, provide these entrepreneurs—Ashoka Fellows—a living stipend for an average of three years, allowing them to focus full-time on building their institutions and spreading their ideas. We also provide our Fellows with a global support network of their peers and partnerships with professional consultants. Once elected to the Ashoka Fellowship, Fellows benefit from this community for life.

Name of the award:  Ashden Award
The recipient is one of the SGP partner Technology Informatics Design Endeavor (TIDE) working on the SGP Project “GHG Emission Reductions Through use of Energy Efficient Technologies by Textile Processing Units in Tamil Nadu”. The recipient NGO was awarded with the first position of Ashden Award in the year 2008. The Ashden Awards set up in 2001 is award towards sustainable energy solutions in the UK and developing world and help ensure that they are spread more widely. Today the Awards are an internationally recognised yardstick for excellence in the field of sustainable energy.

Name of the Award: 1st Bihar Innovation Forum Award
NIDAN (a SGP Partner) received the 1st Bihar Innovation Forum Award for organizing unorganized workers in Bihar and fourth Prize for the insurance program run by NIDAN for the Informal Sectors Workers specially Rag pickers and vendors. This event was organised by Bihar (a state in India) Rural Livelihood Promotion Society supported by World Bank. The award was given by the then, Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Mr. Sushil Modi to the President of Nidan Ms.Prabhabati Devi. She is a Vendor herself and has been associated with NIDAN from the beginning.

 

Name of the Award: Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award
 Arbind Singh, Executive Director, Nidan (SGP –India partner) won the Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2008 in India ·   Nidan is developing sustainable businesses, cooperatives, trade unions and “people's institutions” led by the most excluded categories of the poor in Bihar ·In India, the Social Entrepreneur Year of the Award is an initiative of The Nand & Jeet Khemka Foundation and the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship in collaboration with the UNDP. Nidan is developing sustainable businesses, cooperatives, trade unions and “people's institutions” led by the most excluded categories of the poor in Bihar. It has promoted and built 20 independent profit-making ventures governed and owned by the urban poor including waste workers, ragpickers, vegetable vendors, construction labourers, domestic helpers, micro-farmers, street traders and other marginalized occupation groupsThe Geneva-based Schwab Foundation is a sister organization of the World Economic Forum. Name of the Award: Asian Scientific and Technical Awards of WASWC"
 
Mr.Aman Singh from Krapavis was awarded with "2008, instituted by the TOKYO UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE Japan. Krapavis is the NGO partner of SGP India working on conservation of biodiversity and water conservation through the project named “Advocacy Programme for Restoration of Orans Through Community Actions for Local Biodiversity Impacting Local Favorable Policies and Community Livelihoods”. Their main focus is to conserve and revive the traditional sacred groves and community forests. Their announcement reads "Asian Technical Award goes to Mr. Aman Singh (India) under the title “Oran; A traditional system/ technology for Permanent solution of water scarcity & environment degradation”. Asian Technical Award is given to scientist, engineer, constructor and farmer etc. who has excellent technical achievements in the field of soil and water conservation. The Government of Rajasthan/ Forest Department has recognized work of Krapavis for plantation in Orans, and has awarded Krapavis as “Vraksha Vardhak Puruskar” of the year 2008-09. The President of the “Oran Forum” Prof. P.P. Bakre was also been invited by the honourable Governor of Rajasthan to prepare and submit an action plan for the betterment of Orans in Rajasthan. This has come great break through at policy level, due to the project efforts.

Name of the Award: Ryutaro Hashimoto APFED Awards
Peekay Tree Corps Development Foundation (PTCDF), Kerala a SGP partner received the silver prize of Ryutaro Hashimoto APFED Awards, 2009 of USD 7,000.The award conferred o PTCDF is in recognition of the activities being promoted since 2004 under the GEF UNDP Small Grants Programme which supported the project “Promoting Coconut-Based Agro-ecosystem and Efficient Product Utilization for Augmenting On-Farm Income, Improving Quality of Environment and Conserving Natural Resources” The project is now operational in eight villages in Kerala having a combined geographical area of 107.74 sq.kms.The Ryutaro Hashimoto APFED Awards for Good Practices (GPs) aim at promoting information dissemination of good practices towards sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific. Name of the Award:  SEED Awards

Himalayan Oregano oil won one of the five 2008 SEED Awards for its potential to improve health and secure alternative livelihood for herb collectors otherwise engaged in destructive extraction of endangered species medicinal plant. Biolaya Organics and Jagriti ( a NGO partner of SGP India) are the lead partners of the project. Additional supporters include University of West England, Bristol, GB Pant Institute of the Himalayan Environment and Development and SGS India.  
Jagriti is currently implementing a project which aims to provide benefits to remote mountain communities through sustainable collection of wild oregano and distillation of its essential oil thereby reducing pressure on collection of medicinal plant species threatened in the wild. Sound research on efficacy of Himalayan oregano oil and sustainable collection practices will form key basis for developing fair trade product. The main activities of the proposed project includes scientific research, implementation of Wild Harvest Management Plan, setting up of oil distillation unit, capacity building and skill development and developing marketing strategy with demonstrated effectiveness. www.jagritikullu.org / www.seedinit.org/

Name of the award: Nehru Yuva Kendra appreciate award
Award Recipient: The award recipient are the youth groups of the community who has been trained in the area of ecotourism and adventure sports. These groups have been trained  in the area of ecotourism and adventure sports by one of the SGP partner New Junoon Khel Yuvak Kalyan Aiwam Samaj working on the SGP project “A Community Approach to Bio- Diversity Conservation through Eco-Tourism -A model for better livelihoods” and are working towards conservation of the biodiversity. The local youth have been trained as guides, and trekkers and they are now earning nearly 200 USD per month from earlier 20 USD under the project. The project has been seen as the best encouraging the local youths involvement. The youth groups were awarded with appreciation award in the year 2007 for their contribution in the area of ecotourism and adventure sports.
The Nehru Yuvak Kendra appreciation award aims to encourage the growth of Youth Clubs which have been recognised as catalysts of social change. It has been observed that Youth Clubs can play a vital role in activities such as adult literacy, vocational training, creation of durable community assets in villages, national integration, sports, culture, health and family welfare, environment enrichment, self-employment, women empowerment, eradication of social evils, community development, etc. In order to promote further growth of Youth Clubs the Government of India have introduced the scheme so as to encourage more and more Youth Clubs to come forward towards nation building. With the introduction of the scheme, the government hopes that not only the existing Youth Clubs will play a more meaningful role but more Youth Clubs will come into being in future. https://www.nyks.org/index.htm

 

 

Name of the Award: Kubera-Edelweiss Social Innovation Honours

 

In March 2009, Ibtada a SGP partner was honoured as Runner Up in Girl Child Education category of the award instituted by Edelgive: The financial services firm, Edelweiss Capital Ltd is partnering Kubera Partners, a private equity firm based in USA to launch the Kubera-Edelweiss Social Innovation Honours, three awards totaling US$ 60,000 to felicitate outstanding innovations that positively impact the status of the girl child, through the delivery of services in three areas: education, health and nutrition, and future employability of the girl child. EdelGive Foundation, the not for profit subsidiary of Edelweiss Capital is managing the entire process of these awards. The primary objective of the awards is to give an impetus to the issue of the girl child, and also to use prize philanthropy as an effective tool to promote innovation, awareness and targeted benefits to the needy. https://www.edelcap.com/
 Ibtada has been working on one of the SGP project titled “Promoting Animal Husbandry as Sustainable Livelihood for Rural Women leading to Ecological Conservation”. The objective of the project is promotion of alternate fuel in households and animal husbandry as a means for sustainable livelihoods for rural women leading to ecological conservation and better incomes.

 

 

Name of the Award:  Dubai International Award for Best Practices
SGP project partner Aadhar won the Best Practice Award by the Dubai International Award for Best Practices, 2008. The DIABP was established under the directives of late Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, during the United Nations International Conference that convened in Dubai between 19 – 22 November, 1995 with 914 participants from 95 countries, to recognize the best practices with positive impact on improving the living environment. H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the U.A.E. and the Ruler of Dubai and H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and Industry and Chairman of Dubai Municipality has continued to support this Award.

The award recipient has been working on the SGP project titled “To protect farmers from Chrome VI menace through remediation of ground water affected by Tannery Effluents containing CHROME VI ’ under the GEF UNDP Small Grants Programme”. The project is being implemented in 32 villages & 8 slums of the Jajmau tannery area of Kanpur District in Uttar Pradesh.

 

 

Janhit: One World Award & Green Apple Environment Award
The Founder Director of Janhit Foundation has been conferred upon with the prestigious ‘One World Award’ in 2008, by IFOAM and Rapunzel, for his constant contribution towards nature conservation, biodiversity conservation, organic agriculture and activities which have brought a change in the lives of the community at large, both economically and socially. 
Janhit foundation is the SGP partner working on the GEF UNDP SGP project “Reducing the use of persistant Organic Pollutants and related POPs Namely Lindane and Endosulphan through Promotion of the use of Bio Pesticides and Organic Manures”
IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agriculture) is patron of the One World Award. The award is aimed to recognize people who are committed to permanently protect and conserve this one world as the basis of existence for all people.
It was with great honour that Lt. Sh. Anil Rana and the Janhit Foundation had been awarded this award for the year 2008. It has been selected as one of the five finalist organisations in the world which have constantly contributed towards nature conservation, biodiversity conservation, organic agriculture and activities which have brought a change in the lives of the community at large, both economically and socially. The other four finalists included Mr. Lal Emmanuel of the Nagenahiru Foundation from Sri Lanka, Mr. Sheng Lyun of the Fo Fa Shan Organic Ecological Group from Taiwan, Mr. Harald Schutzeichel of the Solar Energy Foundation from Ethiopia and Mr. Victor Ananias of the Bugday Association from Turkey. Apart from a cash prize, a beautiful citation was presented to him as the Director of the organisation, at a public function which was held at Modena Italy on June 19, 2008. The award was presented by Ms. Renate Kunast, the Former German Minister of Agriculture and the chairwoman of the greens parliamentary group.

Janhit was also recognized for the outstanding contribution in water conservation– Appreciation   Certificate was issued by Ms. Lizzette Burgers, WES Chief, UNICEF and the Country Representative of Water Aid, Mr. Depinder Singh Kapur in 2008.
The foundation also joined in celebrating Ground Water Day on 10th June 2008. The Ground Water Department, Govt. of UP hosted a seminar at Lucknow and chaired by Honourable Minister for Department. Here late Mr. Anil Rana, was also honoured with the title of ‘Waterman of Uttar Pradesh’ and was recognized for his outstanding contribution.
In 2009, Janhit Foundation has been declared as one of the major winners of the prestigious ‘Green Apple Environment Awards’ for their outstanding contribution and work towards environment issues. Name of the Award: Dr. Bhimroa Ambedkar Award

SGP partner Dalit Sangh was awarded with Dr. Bhimroa Ambedkar Award of Rs 500,000  by Madhya Pradesh Government for the year 2006-2007 for its best services rendered to the society. The award was presented on 14th April 2008 on the Ambedkar Jayanti to Dalit Sangh. Dalit Sangh is working with the Pardhi Community in the area of Biodiversity conservation. They are working on the project titled “To Ensure Biodiversity Conservation through promoting traditional skill based livelihoods for the Pardhi Tribes”.  

 

Name of the Award: Indira Priyadarshini Vriksha Mitra Award
The SGP partner WOMEN ORGANISATION FOR SOCIO CULTURAL AWARENESS (WOSCA) has been awarded with Indira Priyadarshini Vriksha Mitra Award .The partner is currently implementing the SGP project titled “Replication of Sustainable Development Among Tribals Through Participatory Bio-Diversity Conservation Programme at 13 Gram Panchayat of Sadar and Ghatagaon block of Keonjhar District, ORISSA” The award will be presented on 19th November 2009 at New Delhi. Indira Priyadarshini Vrikshamitra Awards are given to individuals and institutions who have done pioneering and exemplary work in the field of afforestation and wasteland development. A cash award of Rupees Two lakh fifty thousand is presented to individuals/institutions in four catergories.

 International Recognition of work done by one of the SGP partner C-Dot
CDOT a SGP partner is a community based organisation working in the Chennai Coastal
 area. After the Tsunami C-Dot was identified and selected to implement a project of "Empowering Women through the Start of a Value Added Fish Product Unit at Royapuram and capacity building at Thiruvanmiur Kuppam” with the support of GEF UNDP Small Grants Program.
After the successful implementation of the project a Knowledge Sharing Workshop was organized on the South-South Grants Facility at Colobmo,Sri Lanka from 6-9 September 2007. During the workshop project of C-Dot  was selected as one of the best  practices and it was decided that it could be replicated in other needed area.
Human Development Stock Exchange (HDSX) Forum, UNDP,Newyork invited C-Dot to replicate this program in Sri Lamka with their support as a model program. C-Dot identified a NGO called NESDO based in Sainthamaruth of  Eastern Province of Sri Lanka and is going to start the capacity building program.
