Ministry of
Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Government of India,
celebrated the UNCCD Day (United Nations Convention to Combat
Desertification) on 17 June 2015 at the India Habitat Centre,
New Delhi. The occasion was used to organise a Workshop which
was chaired by the Union Minister, Ministry of Environment,
Forests & Climate Change, Mr. Shri Prakash Javalekar.
The Secretary,
Mr. Rajgopalan and the Additional Secretary also chaired the
sessions. The Joint Secretary, Mr. B.M.S. Rathore who was
earlier the member of GEF/SGP National Steering Committee was
also present on the dias, in addition to the dignitaries like
Director General, Indian Council for Forest & Research Institute
(ICFRI), Dehradun.
GEF/UNDP Small
Grants Programme India invited the SGP NGO partners (25 SGP NGO
partners joined from all over India). SGP’s success stories
were shared by our partners and the work relating to water
restoration in the ravines was appreciated and picked up for
pursuing by the Ministry officials. Products produced by SGP
partners to link up with the occasion were also displayed.
