"Strengthening
traditional livelihood system of desert community through Agro-forestry
and Horticultural practices" |
Grant amount: Rs.15,00,000/-
The project attempts to solve the condition of agriculture in the project
area. Attempts to bring more area under cultivation has failed and this,
coupled with droughts, depleting water resources and mechanised farming,
have aggravated their socio-economic condition, forcing small and marginalised
farmers to shift from their traditional livelihood system and have become
wage labourers. The practice of agro-forestry & horticulture among
small & marginalized farmers will be popularized and intermediate
technology in the practice of agriculture, particularly in areas of irrigation
& manuring will be promoted. The NGO will incorporate the components
in the present agricultural practices, promote intermediate technology
and enhance the process of technology transfer from lab to land through
information- sharing.

Strengthening
Role of Panchayat in Re-establishing Biodiversity in Southern Aravali
Hills |
Grant Amount: Rs.15,04,440
The project area receives scanty rainfall and is therefore suffering
from agriculture related problems, low availability of grass and fodder
and continued degradation of the forest. This project therefore proposes
to organize village community and the Gram Sabha members into an Awareness
group which will follow village level awareness camps with Panchayat representatives
and villagers. Information on biodiversity in the area will be collected
and ways to restore it will be discussed. Training of community leaders
on Biodiversity Conservation in Beed Management will be carried out and
besides activities such as, exposure visits and nature walks, training
of teachers and Ward Panch are also proposed under the project. It also
includes demonstrations on how to develop site plans to support biodiversity
in specific wastelands and how to stabilize wastelands through soil and
moisture conservation. The community will also raise a low cost nursery
for indigenous minor fruit and medicinal plants. Some local species will
be propagated through direct seeding, root suckers, grafting, etc.. Grasses
will be identified and their nutritive values will be established. The
sites will be provided with regeneration of wastelands and SWC measures
like tree basins, staggered trenches and gradonis to support pasture development.
