Award Recipient: The award recipient are the youth groups of the community who has been trained in the area of ecotourism and adventure sports. These groups have been trained in the area of ecotourism and adventure sports by one of the SGP partner New Junoon Khel Yuvak Kalyan Aiwam Samaj working on the SGP project “A Community Approach to Bio- Diversity Conservation through Eco-Tourism -A model for better livelihoods” and are working towards conservation of the biodiversity. The local youth have been trained as guides, and trekkers and they are now earning nearly 200 USD per month from earlier 20 USD under the project. The project has been seen as the best encouraging the local youths involvement. The youth groups were awarded with appreciation award in the year 2007 for their contribution in the area of ecotourism and adventure sports. The Nehru Yuvak Kendra appreciation award aims to encourage the growth of Youth Clubs which have been recognised as catalysts of social change. It has been observed that Youth Clubs can play a vital role in activities such as adult literacy, vocational training, creation of durable community assets in villages, national integration, sports, culture, health and family welfare, environment enrichment, self-employment, women empowerment, eradication of social evils, community development, etc. In order to promote further growth of Youth Clubs the Government of India have introduced the scheme so as to encourage more and more Youth Clubs to come forward towards nation building. With the introduction of the scheme, the government hopes that not only the existing Youth Clubs will play a more meaningful role but more Youth Clubs will come into being in future. http://www.nyks.org/index.htm

Demonstrating Sustainable Community based Management of Solid and Bio-Medical Waste
NIDAN (a SGP Partner) received the 1st Bihar Innovation Forum Award for organizing unorganized workers in Bihar and fourth Prize for the insurance program run by NIDAN for the Informal Sectors Workers specially Rag pickers and vendors. This was in 2007. This event was organised by Bihar (a state in India) Rural Livelihood Promotion Society supported by World Bank. The award was given by the then, Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Mr. Sushil Modi to the President of Nidan Ms.Prabhabati Devi. She is a Vendor herself and has been associated with NIDAN from the beginning.

CCD a SGP partner is a community based organisation working in the Chennai Coastal area. After the Tsunami C-Dot was identified and selected to implement a project of "Empowering Women through the Start of a Value Added Fish Product Unit at Royapuram and capacity building at Thiruvanmiur Kuppam” with the support of GEF UNDP Small Grants Program.After the successful implementation of the project a Knowledge Sharing Workshop was organized on the South-South Grants Facility at Colobmo,Sri Lanka from 6-9 September 2007. During the workshop project of C-Dot was selected as one of the best practices and it was decided that it could be replicated in other needed area. Human Development Stock Exchange (HDSX) Forum, UNDP, Newyork invited C-Dot to replicate this program in Sri Lamka with their support as a model program. C-Dot identified a NGO called NESDO based in Sainthamaruth of Eastern Province of Sri Lanka and is going to start the capacity building program.
